A woman wearing glasses is smiling while sitting and holding a laptop. She is in a covered corridor with an arched ceiling. In the background, a few people are walking. The scene suggests a casual and academic environment.

US census data has shown time and again how strongly the AAPI community values higher education. According to Pew Research Center, about half of US Asian American adults (51%) had a bachelor’s degree or higher in 2021. This statistic is impressive, especially when considering that the adult APPI community only comprises about 7% of the US population.

If you’re an AAPI student looking to begin studying in a graduate program, you may want to consider a college that recognizes the value of serving diverse populations with an eye toward student and cross-cultural support. These schools offer targeted support programs, dedicated scholarship funds, and other enhanced resources for AAPI students.

But which school is best for you? While the answer to that question will depend on a variety of personal factors — including your preferred field of study, your finances, and even what state you’re based in — you’ll also want to consider schools notable for their support of AAPI students. Keep reading to discover a list of these schools, learning about the resources in place to enhance your master’s experience.

The 20 Best Online Colleges for AAPI Master’s Students

Our experts reviewed the most recent data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to determine the best online colleges for AAPI master’s degree students. Our rankings are based on:

  • The percentage of enrolled AAPI graduate students
  • The average graduation rate of AAPI students (graduate and undergraduate)
  • The number of master’s degree awarded during the previous school year

Benefits of Earning an Online Master’s from a Top-Ranked AAPI College

Affordability

For most students, the price of a master’s degree is a top concern. This includes not only base tuition rates, but also financial aid offerings and scholarships. Many top-ranked AAPI schools offer dedicated scholarships for AAPI students, in addition to generous financial aid programs. Moreover, if you choose to study online or in a hybrid format, you can potentially save money by cutting out relocation costs and studying from wherever you’re currently based.

Improved Accommodations

Top-ranked AAPI schools are more likely to offer DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) resources; these often include student support offices, career counseling programs, campus recruitment campaigns , and student retention initiatives. You’re also more likely to be taught by specially trained, culturally aware faculty, and enjoy the benefits of a diverse cohort of classmates.

Stronger Support

One of the most important tools you can have to help you navigate grad school is your support system. While some elements of your support system, such as your family, will be constant to matter where you study, many of the top-ranked AAPI schools have student organizations and extracurricular opportunities to increase your support network while you study. Additionally, remote and hybrid options help you stay close to loved ones during your master’s study.

Better Inclusion

All students want to feel included at school. Top-ranked AAPI schools will have a large AAPI student population already in place when you enroll, meaning you’re likely to find students from similar backgrounds. While any instance of discrimination is one too many, these top-ranked schools are more likely to have programs in place to report incidents to ensure that they aren’t allowed to stand or be repeated.
