Often, scholarships are not specifically for online or hybrid healthcare students. Instead, most scholarships target healthcare graduate students more generally and don’t discriminate between online or in-person students. Almost all the grants and scholarships listed above also apply to online and hybrid programs.

Scholarships and grants are amazing financial aid options, but they aren’t the only ones available for healthcare graduate students. When applying, you should also consider federal aid options, such as the FASFA, work-study program, and government-subsidized loans.

If you already have a job, your employer may offer tuition assistance. In an employer tuition assistance program, your employer pays all or part of your tuition costs, often for a degree that directly relates to your current role or in exchange for you remaining with the company for a specific number of years after graduating.

One of the many benefits of healthcare is the sheer number of scholarships in the field. As a result, healthcare graduate students often face a higher chance of qualifying for financial aid than students in other fields. That’s not to say applying for financial aid isn’t without its challenges, though. Scholarship applications take time, and students may have to apply for many different ones to achieve a significant amount of financial aid toward their degrees. To increase your chances of securing scholarships, apply to as many as possible and polish your application materials before submitting.

The average tuition for a master’s degree is $19,792 per year. While this cost is high, a 2020 study found getting a master’s degree in a healthcare field had a positive financial impact on graduates. Healthcare fields that require graduate degrees often exceed the U.S. salary average. Health informaticists, for example, earn $164,070 per year while healthcare managers earn an average of $104,830. Because of the increased earning potential, a healthcare graduate degree should be viewed as an investment in your future.

While almost all healthcare fields have ample scholarships, some offer more financial aid opportunities than others. A recent study highlighted how nursing students often have access to more scholarships and financial aid programs than MPH students. However, that same study found that healthcare students across all graduate program types experience more access to privately funded scholarships and state-funded financial aid than students in other professional sectors.
